Tylosin is generally bacteriostatic and, at high concentrations is bactericidal. Tylosin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis in the 50S ribosomal unit. Protein synthesis is hampered due to reactions in aminoacyl translocation and Initial formation barriers so that peptide chain elongation does not occur. Tylosin also has immunomodulatory effects on cell-mediated immunity.
Tylosin is used to treat sensitive bacterial infections such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Bacillus, Corynebacterium, Clostridium spp, Listeria, Eryslpelotrhrix, Haemophillus, Pasteurella, Brucella, Actlnomyces, Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, Ureaplasma and Rickettsia in various animal species
